Residents will have opportunities to complete scholarly activity throughout their training. Research opportunities exist both within Cherokee Nation as well as with faculty members of Oklahoma State University College of Osteopathic Medicine. Residents also will have opportunities to assist teaching in classes and simulation events at the medical school as their schedule allows.

PGY-1 and PGY-2 residents will present annually at the Best Practices Conference. This conference is held virtually twice per month. Each resident will choose a medical topic and present the most current, evidence-based recommendations. This presentation is made available to providers throughout all Cherokee Nation Health facilities, as well as other residency programs across the state.

Each resident will complete a quality improvement project during residency training. The Cherokee Nation Health Services Quality Improvement department assists residents in the design and completion of their project. Residents will have opportunities for collaboration with other disciplines (nursing, pharmacy, etc) in quality improvement as well.
